The last book written by the late big-game hunter Jim Corbett tells of his final days living in the Kenyan game reserves. Although containing vivid descriptions of the area's wildlife, Corbett concentrates on the visit of Princess Elizabeth to Tree Tops, where she learned of George VI's death.

Jim Corbett, Raymond Shepherd. This is Jim Corbett's last book and the only one not set in India. It tells of Princess Elizabeth's visit to Tree Tops in Kenya, during which she learned George VI had died and that she was now Queen. Although there are the characteristically vivid descriptions of the area's wildlife, the book is tinged with a sense of foreboding and regret at losing his Kumaon home.

The signatures inscribed with a date seem to indicate that for those dated from 1944 - 1948 Corbett used a flat line to top the J, where as signatures dated late 1948 onwards, he seems to have changed the style of the J to have a looped top. I was wondering if anyone had noticed this adaption, and if it's a fair assumption that Corbett decided to modify his signature slightly at some point in 1948?

This book completes are entire collection of Jim Corbett's life and is in fact part of history, as I was there in 1952 when Princess Elizabeth became Queen. Relating these moments which Jim Corbett wrote just before he died is very interesting. It's only a small booklet but if one knew Corbett - and I did as a child whe he came to Kenya in 1947 - this is perfect, one can't ask for more!
Bradeya
the supreme self- effacer. he seemed abashed by thw fact he had homestlt expressed his feelings about her father to his queen

A surprisingly small book, but a good read about Queen Elizabeth who as a young woman visited Tree Tops as a princess and returned a queen.
