A great book

I'm half way through and am loving this book. The author was a pastor who ended up leaving, working at HCJB and then studying at the famous Carl Jung institute with his wife. His knowledge was gained so he may council people and help the church. Though there are many dreams in the bible, many in the western church discount their role in our lives today. The writer points out that Socrates accepted the senses as well as spiritual world as valid sources of knowledge-while Aristotle who followed him only accepted the senses. This attitude has carried on through the ages of culture into the church.

The writer is very good at describing the value dreams have for us-to balance out parts of our personality that need development. Many of us don't remember our dreams he says because alarm clocks wake us from sleep so abruptly, we do not wake slowly as we might naturally where we'd be more aware of our dreams. I've read Jung's work and though it is excellent there can be a strange darkness to it. I found that Riffel discerned and spoke clearly about the glimmers of light that Jung discovered. It was also interesting to read his viewpoints on biblical stories involving dreams such as Daniel and King Nebecudnezzer. Very inspiring so far.
