While remaining steadfast in her mission to find her husband, Prince Alathom, the story unravels with fiery tension between Princess Sierra and High Wolf when it is discovered Princess Sierra's marriage was never consummated.   Leading to understanding and  forgiveness, Princess Sierra is united with High Wolf as one and the release of their love matching 10 years worth of pent-up passion ignites and the real fire begins.

Three best friends with a strong bond are put into an unacceptable situation. Forced to marry for family alliance and political reasons, all three make a plan of escape. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned. Even worse, a man who is trusted, because that is the way the society believed in things, turns out not to be trustworthy. He is in fact evil!

I only wish there had been a bit of the book, even a brief look, between the set up and ten years later.
While we do get to see glimpses later, I would have liked a little bit sooner.

Wow- ten years of being married, yet not. Of feeling the ultimate betrayal and total misunderstanding. And oh- the attraction that does not die!

I enjoyed and was at times annoyed by this interesting historical novel.
I loved the strength of the characters and the situations their author made them endure.
I think this is an under presented aspect of history.

What a fabulous book! I was so impressed and drawn into this book that I couldn't put it down. In fact it's now 5:33am and I've just finished.

I loved this story and I'm sure that you will love it and you should get this wonderful book and read it for yourself to find out everything that happens.

I highly recommend this book as well as the other books that are involved this series.
In 1824 Germany, Princess Sierra, Prince Alathom, and adopted American Indian Prince High Wolf plan to flee to Scotland. Sierra and High Wolf are in love and plan to marry while Alathom just wants his freedom from state responsibilities including marrying the princess. However, the escape fails with Sierra stopped by her father, who plans to see her politically married to Alathom of the neighboring dukedom. Father Junipero tells Sierra that High Wolf demanded gold to break the engagement while Alathom vanished. The ceremony was done by proxy as he fails to appear.
Ten years later, Sierra is in St. Louis seeking her husband Alathom who never came home. Though she hates him and High Wolf for their betrayal, she needs Alathom to come home to avert a war between their duchies. Sierra has done her best to rule over the two lands, but everyone blames her for her missing spouse. Governor Clark arranges for the best scout High Wolf to escort her Highness, but when he sees Sierra, he refuses as he feels she betrayed their vows of love. Sierra continues her quest without him, but he follows her for safety purposes.
This is an exciting historical romance that brings to life early Americana through the insightful look at the Indian tribes and the use of Governor Clark (Lewis and Clark fame). Each of the prime trio is unique with fully developed personalities. Though the mysticism is interesting it also enables too easy of a resolution than a decade of increasing discontent should allow. Still fans of early nineteenth century romances will appreciate this astute glimpse of a bygone era.
