Jane Austen adaptations and spin offs really run the gamut between absolutely awful to just short of an original Austen. This one falls, more or less, in the last category. Nothing tremendous happens but that is Austen for you: making everyday and common experiences fascinating.

Another characteristic of the genre is severe need of editing. I only noticed two mistakes, the most notable being the word "Okay" slipping into Georgiana's thoughts. Since this is the worst of it, I won't deduct even a fraction of a star from this otherwise nearly flawless book.

The book deals with Georgiana's love story. Everyone in it is plausible and acts as you would expect them to act just a few years after P & P ends. It is nice to see Elizabeth and Darcy happy in their marriage, but Georgiana is the heroine here and her romance develops naturally and the ups and downs are what one would expect with a heroine who is shy and uncertain of her worth--and who happens to have Caroline Bingley Crosby in her immediate family circle.

Since the story is not long, I won't give anymore details away but, suffice it to say, that I was sorry to come to the end and have put it in my 5-star folder (which is where I put all my worth-reading-again books).

This story takes place five years after Pride and Prejudice ends. The Darcy's and Bingley's are settled with their children and comfortable home lives. Georgiana is not settled. She had three unsuccessful seasons in London and is disinclined to have another. The families gather at the Bingley's home and Caroline Crosby nee Bingley is up to her old tricks. However, Caroline's brother-in-law is just the kind of man Georgiana needs for a husband. And what better place for a shy girl to meet the right man than within the bosom of her family. They have time to get to know one another in comfort and love blossoms.

This book by Lelia M. Silver is a refreshingly tender look at Georgiana Darcy. The plot is well conceived, with some tension and misunderstanding between the characters. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are secondary in this novel, but well presented as the people and personalities we expect. The only disconcerting note is the use of contractions such as can't and h'd, which Jane Austen never used.

Of all the books I've read that attempt to pick up where P & P left off, this is my favorite. Georgiana is brought front and center and is such a likeable character that you cheer for her throughout the story. The author beautifully captures the feel of the Regency era and the aspects of daily life that define the D'Arcy and Bennet families. She skillfully interweaves favorite phrases from P & P too! A pleasure to read. Hopefully Ms. Silver will publish more soon!

I found it difficult to get into the story initially as the author attempted to mimic the speech of the characters in the original story. As the book progressed, though, I enjoyed it more. The only issue I would have with the story is that key moments (ex: proposals, refusals) are almost verbatim Jane Austen. It would have been nice to have been able to read these key scenes without thinking about how horrid it is that the villain is using the same proposal language as Mr. Darcy. Otherwise, liked the book!

I greatly enjoyed Ms. Silver's latest book. The characters were delightful and the plot was complicated enough to keep your interest . The character development had changed enough from what had been previously written in pride and prejudice and I appreciated that effort.

Georgiana is a sympathetic character in Austen's P&P. This story allows us to take our sympathy with her even further as we watch her mature and try to determine who to love. Ms Silver stays true to Austen's characters and crafts a lovely tale for us.
Heartwarming look at Georgianna. This book keeps with the shy young woman we loved in Pride & Prejudice. Elizabeth & Darcy are supporting characters but their love shines through.
