Currently out of print, this isn't the first or last book about the Ludlow Massacre, but in my opinion it is still the best. We need to tell this history now more than ever to understand the struggles and sacrifices that were made for rights and privileges we now take for granted. This shows how the creation and evolution of our republic did not end with the Revolution and the initial Constitution. Democracy is a process, not a static thing, that requires the hard work of the populace to improve and not regress.

George McGovern was a first-rate academic and thinker. As a WW II pilot he knew war and worked hard to prevent it. To think that someone of his character was the Democratic Party Candidate in 1972 against Richard Nixon makes me pause and think "What if?"

Anyway, great book, read it.

Every high school kid should be required to read this book. It shows how greedy and powerful people will do anything to keep control and wealth. Even in the U.S., we should be vigilant and never let wealthy people take our humanity in their pursuit of fortune. Good book.

This book is a GREAT Read and it packs a great deal of American History between the covers. I understand that it is an expansion and extension of George McGovern's PhD Thesis!!!
