For Abrams and Jenkins the core of metal is first and foremost Black Sabbath, and secondarily the "big four" American thrash bands: allica/Slayer (although they think Megadeth's Dave Mustaine is a prick). They're explicitly not The world of heavy metal music is broader than almost anyone who hasn't spent time in it is likely to guess, so if you're contemplating this book as a gift for a metalhead in your life (which might be yourself) it's helpful to know the focus and bias.

There are lists of metal songs about metal - 70 for other bands, and a second list of a dozen, of course, for . But it’s when the authors have a little fun that the book shines.

10 reasons Anthrax should never be associated with hardcore" by a dude from Madball? Classic. Plus, thanks to this book, I now know that Goo Goo Dolls and Cannibal Corpse have played shows together. Weird (actually, the whole "Top 10 obscure Metal Blade Records facts" is wildly interesting). Yes, metalheads, you pretty much need to own The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists. Perhaps the most hilarious list on here is the list of "very best qualities of Metallica's Load and Reload albums," but I'm not spoiling it here. MOTÖRHEAD – Stay Clean (Live At Friars, 1979) (BMG).

A lot of good opinions but that's what they are, opinions. Howie seems to think what he thinks is can't be disputed. And there are some filler topics in there where you start to feel like he was running out of content. But overall worth a read and some of his comments or opinions will fire you up. For example, calling Metallica's Load and Re-Load some of the worst albums ever or along those lines. But failed to mention St. Anger? Give it a shot.

Got it for a friend, who is a complete metal head and very picky. He loved it and keeps it on his coffee table.

The description of this list book was very misleading, unless you are a die hard fan of classic metal this book isn't for you. Also this book is very very very biased, so there really isn't a variety of artists mentioned. Sorry, was just not thrilled with this.

I heard Howie and Sacha on Eddie Trunk's show on SiriusXM, and that convinced me to download the book. However, most of the "list" are either very obscure or just pointless. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who didn't grow up with the 80s metal scene.

Interesting read.

Not a very good book I thought it would have been much better

if you are into gay stuff like Motley Crue or poison or any hairband this is not for you. Being that I was more into the hardcore/thrash scene I really identified with this book. I see where they are coming from I guess is what I mean. All the poseurs that were into hair bands, etc, may want to stay away from this one. It's definitely worth the $2 asking price!!!!!
Got it a while ago as a present for a friend...he does lots of lists...and he loves it! Just waiting for him to get done, so I can read it!
