McAllister was best known for his Guardian pocket cartoons, which were published in the paper from 1974 until the radical redesign of the Guardian in 1989. In 1990 he returned to the Guardian with an occasional feature of words and drawings called "McAllister's Eye", and in 1996, after the merger of the Guardian and the Observer, he also began contributing pocket cartoons to the Observer. McAllister was the original writer of "The Belchers" strip in Vole, before illustrator Bryan Reading took over the script himself.

Bryan D. Andrews is an American storyboard artist and writer known for his work in science fiction and superhero films. Along with Genndy Tartakovsky and Paul Rudish, he co-created the animated television series Sym-Bionic Titan, which premiered on Cartoon Network on September 17, 2010. After 20 episodes, however, it was canceled due to lack of merchandise connected to the series, with the final episode airing April 9, 2011.
