It is hard to believe how beautiful this book is, for someone who already has a large collection of Japanese art.
Siramath
The art is serene, the commentary informative, and the printing quality is exquisite. It is as well done as one could hope for.

The quality and importance of Ukiyo-e and how it has influenced how we see is evident in the works.

There is an introduction and each illustration has a helpful text
The star attraction are the illustrations

A useful introduction to Hiroshige is the 1997 Royal Academy of Arts Exhibition-- try and get the larger volume and not the smaller flexibound one. The pictures are larger and a lot more impressive

This is a catalogue worth studying and lingering over. Hiroshige's brilliant art is no surprise, but the introductory text is unusually fine.

... coupled with a large format and excellent translations, makes this the single most important volume for lovers of Hiroshige, and especially for those fond of his kacho-ga (birds and flowers). This is not just another art book. You won't understand until you see it. And you must see it.

A beautiful book: the colors sing. This is joyful, breathtaking, work from one of the world's true artists, of any period. A wonderful gift.
Great pictures. Great history and stories.
