The only way to become familiar with the names and uses of dental instruments is by repeatedly viewing them - the kind of hands-on proficiency that simple textbook descriptions can't provide! This new flip-book, flashcard-style method helps readers memorize and quickly identify instruments at a glance, with a photograph or illustration of the instrument on the top page, and a full description of the instrument on the bottom page - including its name, use, and key characteristics. The picture of each instrument makes an ideal flashcard that readers can use to quiz themselves or others. At the end of most chapters, a photograph provides an example of a tray set-up that incorporates many of the instruments used in that chapter.Flashcard format shows the picture of an instrument on the top page of each 2-page spread, with a description of that instrument on the bottom page.Spiral binding allows the book to lay flat or fold over so that just the instrument or its description, or both, is visible.Small size makes it easy to carry and use at any time.Approximately 200 individual photographs or line drawings of general dentistry instruments make it easy to recognize and identify instruments. Each instrument is pictured alone on a page, without any description or text, allowing the reader to learn the instrument's name without hints or clues.Specialty instruments are included in separate chapters devoted to each specialty.A brief description of each instrument includes the name of the instrument, as well as its uses and characteristics, with each description broken into the same three categories to make memorization easier.Photographs of tray set-ups at the end of most chapters, made up of many of the instruments that were included in that chapter, provide an example of how the instruments in a certain chapter can be laid out in a tray set-up.

Lots of pictures is awesome, it's helped me learn instruments I didn't know.

I think it could be set up better, especially the sterilization notes since it's so repetitive it's hard to keep reading. It would be better to just write "disinfect" or "sterilize" or "place in sharps container" as opposed to a paragraph that says the same thing most pages. I don't want to read the same paragraph page after page but I also don't want to miss anything. Any major sterilization information should be placed in bold. See my attached pictures to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

The only other thing that would make this better is to show more pictures of the instruments or materials in use, not just the instrument or material itself. This pocketbook does this for many instruments but more of these in-use pictures would really help see the functionality of the materials.

Overall I would definitely recommend this because it has very good information and very good pictures.

I ordered this Dental Instrument book for my daughter who is currently in College and studying to become a Dental Assistant.

This was a required book for her classes.

I love that Amazon offers College level books. We have purchased many book from here.

I would highly recommend this book for your studies. Well detailed. Brilliantly illustrated and explains clearly.

It has everything you will need to know, and fit's the college book requirement.

Dental Assisting is tough enough to learn. It is always helpful to have tools that make learning and understanding easier. This instrument handbook is just that tool!

I purchased a number of them for incorporation into my small dental assisting school. My school offers basic hands-on training which moves very quickly. The course is intense and condensed. The students are hard-pressed to master infection control, impression, making bleaching trays etc. They NEED all the help they can get. Some of them took copies of the instrument book, made flash cards and proceeded to test each other in class!

They moved along much more rapidly that others before them!!!

Great easy to follow promoting effective learning
While labeled a "pocket guide", you will need a very big pocket to fit it in, but comprehensive.
