Michael Joseph Alexander (born 1941) is a British translator, poet, academic and broadcaster. York Notes on Geoffrey Chaucer's "Prologue to the Canterbury Tales" (1999, with Mary Alexander). Such an artist was Alexander Pope in the 17th century, the . The Canterbury Tales contain few references to the plague. In the beginning of the Prologue, Chaucer himself tells us the purpose of his writing the prologue.

Such an artist was Alexander Pope in the 17th century, the age of classicism, and such a poet was Alfred Tennyson in the Victorian Age, during the 19th Century. Pope faithfully represents his Age in his poems such as The Rape of the Lock. His references to the agitations and the plague are casual. This clearly shows that Chaucer wants to characterize a person as what he or she appears to be dressed or in behaviour.
