John James Audubon (1785-1851) was for half a century North America's dominant nature artist, as well as the first in the region to conduct bird-banding experiments. Birds of America is his seminal work, the one against which such contemporary bird artists as Roger Tory Peterson and David Sibley are measured. The last print featured in the collection was issued in 1838, after which Audubon traveled North America several more times to paint the continent's wildlife before finally settling in New York City.

JOHN JAMES AUDUBON is undoubtedly one of the greatest nature painters and writers in history. In the 1830's Audubon also wrote his Ornithological Biography which described the habits of the birds he drew. He interspersed these bird biographies with episodes on life in America during this turbulent period. His writings are now considered a literary treasure. Do not confuse this book with other books reproducing Audubon's Birds of America with the same or similar title.

For the Love of America is written as a poetry book based on the idea of promoting love, patriotism, compassion and decency to all people in this country - and to those in other countries, as well. Many people have died in service to this great country and I feel very thankful to all those who have served, both living and dead, for the fact that we are still free. I also included a number of poems for and about women and children, because I believe that far too many cases of abuse take place in America. Each person who reads this book is invited to form his or her own opinion of the issues I have set forth, and to speak out about what they believe.
