by Manly Wade Wellman

Born in Portuguese West Africa on May 21, 1903, Manly Wade Wellman’s ancestry reached back through the Confederate South to colonial Virginia-with the potent infusion of Gascon French and American Indian. Coming to America as a child, he travelled widely-as far West as Utah, as far East as New York, and a lot of places in between. He never stayed long in one place, however, until he settled in North Carolina after World War II. He attended college at Wichita State, where he played football, and later at Columbia.

A really excellent Wellman collection, and physically a great paperback. The inclusion of the Lee Brown Coye illustrations makes this a must-buy.

EDIT: first up I should say huge thanks to Shadowridge Press for bringing this book back in print.

This is a classic collection of Manly Wade Wellman's horror tales - this made up the most part of volumes 2,3 and 4 of the Night Shade 5 volume collection, 80% of which is now out of print.

If you have the 5 volumes, you don't need to buy this. If you don't have those, but have read some other Wellman, buy this - its a steal at the price. This is great stuff, all in one volume.

There is no Silver John here (well, maybe Frogfather) and no Thunstone. This is the "generic" horror stories Wellman wrote. Don't expect the headline characters and you wont be disappointed.

Finally, this is a physically huge book. Oversize, even. Too big for public transport. Its beautiful.

Supernatural fiction doesn't get much better than Manly Wade Wellman. This classic collection is a prize indeed.
