This book would be a favorite for any person who loves to listen to general authorities tell stories in general conference. This book brings the Spirit of the Lord to those who are either just interested in reading a good book or to those who are looking for an answer to a prayer. Outstanding Stories by Past General Authorities is a book filled with many inspiring stories that prophets and apostles have told over the century. As you read this book, you will be grateful to hear them retell stories that have touched their life.
The book has given me many favorite stories and I have found many good quotes that have helped me reflect on choices I have made, and how I should change. Many stories in this book have been really good to read, but one story stood out to me and made me reflect on the importance of involving the Lord in all large choices in our life. Joseph Anderson tells a story about Heber Grant and how he was facing a financial crisis in the church and turned to the Lord for help. Heber gives great advice to someone who wasn't willing to give a donation to a cause that the church leaders were directed by the Lord to establish. When the member replied to Heber and said he didn't feel that it was a good cause Heber turned to someone else. When the other person donated the money and was very blessed because he prayed about it, the one man asked Heber "Why didn't you ask me to pray about it?" Heber replied, "Why should I ask you to pray? You didn't offer me anything. No use of asking the Lord to give you enlargement of the heart." When we put our faith on the line in righteousness we can expect blessings that will benefit us in all ways of our life.
This book is very simple to read. The book can help you relate to stories that have happened in your life. One thing I would say is a weakness with the book is that it doesn't have any stories from general authorities beyond Howard W. Hunter. As a 22 year old I would have loved to read about the best stories from President Hinckley and his presidency.
Overall, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes reading, the Spirit, and enjoys general authorities. The book keeps you entertained and wanting to read the next story, weather it is sad or happy; either way its inspiring.
