The Seventh Sacrament has been added to your Cart. Bradberry, an architect, satirizes his profession's star system and ever-changing fashions and keeps readers guessing while the field of six competitors is narrowed by the murders of four of them. Narrator Jamie Ramsgill, a Princeton architecture professor and the competition advisor, is also an apt amateur sleuth. The first victim is an American contestant, a brilliant but depressed drunk; the only clues to his death, which Jamie believes is murder, are a broken loaf of bread and a nearly empty bottle of wine.

A satisfying although somewhat formulaic whodunit from first- time novelist and architect Bradberry. The setting is the Italian Renaissance villa of Dottor Renzo Piruzzi, the richest man in Italy, who's paying Professor Jamie Ramsgill to serve as advisor to an architectural competition among six of the world's most renowned architects. Ramsgill turns sleuth and discovers that the murderer's leitmotif is the seven sacraments, a theme in the art of Catholicism, which leads him to conclude that all six competitors, and he himself, are targets. Sometimes plodding and mechanical, but usually well-written and thoughtfully plotted-with a pleasingly surprising ending.
Gathering the world's six greatest architects for an extraordinary competition, Renzo Piruzzi promises five million dollars to the winner, and one by one each competitor is killed off in a strange series of "accidents.

The square was only two minutes’ walk from Alessio’s front door, and the same from the entrance to the Scuola Elementare di Santa Cecilia, so this was. A journey he made every day, always with his father, a precise and serious man who would retrace his steps from the school gates back to the square, where his office, an outpost of the university, was located.
