This ebook features an illustrated biography of John Lutz including rare photos and never-before-seen documents from the author’s personal collection.

John Lutz published his first short story in 1966 in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine and has been publishing regularly ever since. He is the author of more than fifty novels and 250 short stories and articles. He is a past president of both Mystery Writers of America and Private Eye Writers of America.

Scorcher, the fourth book in a series that includes Tropical Heat, Flame and Kiss, again features Florida private detective Fred Carver. John Lutz picks up the pace in this second story in the Fred Carver Series. A serial killer is on the loose, a maniac wielding a homemade flame thrower fashioned from a scuba tank. I liked the first story Tropical Heat: A Fred Carver Mystery (Book One), but really thought this to be a better, more complex mystery. A key element to any great story is interesting characters and Lutz's Fred Carver is a great example.

SCORCHER, the second in the Fred Carver series, is a dynamite thriller, replete with unexpected plot twists and excellently visualized characters. Someone is killing people with a flamethrower, fashioned from a scuba diving tank. One of the victims is Fred's five year old son, Chipper.

Wow! John Lutz picks up the pace in this second story in the Fred Carver Series. I liked the first story Tropical Heat: A Fred Carver Mystery (Book One), but really thought this to be a better, more complex mystery.

A key element to any great story is interesting characters and Lutz's Fred Carver is a great example. Building on the first story, Lutz takes the time to build a realistic and complex personality. If you like detective series, you'll want to follow this one.

Fred Carver is back, ok, the book is from 1987, but it's the second book in the series and even though old, it holds up well. Fred Carver, former Orlando cop and and now a PI with a bad limp and a caine goes tracking a "flame thrower " killer that killed his little boy. Fast moving and well written for a quickie. Nice beach read for us here in Florida. Series and book RECOMMENDED

Really enjoyed reading this second book of the Fred Carver series. It was like knowing the major characters and joining them on their next case. I thought it was well done. It kept my interest all the way through. Now I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Our hero, Fred Carver, gets not only a lovely young lover but also the clues to find who is responsible for some gruesome murders in Fred's Florida area.

I enjoyed reading this book. The storyline keeps you guessing until the end. I would recommend this book to mystery fans.
The book is enjoyable enough although I found it a little tedious at times. It's just so full of cliches and it seems the author is using the cliches to prop up the writing.
