A friend recommended this book to me while we were expanding our organization, and though I don't normally write reviews, this book was unquestionably a huge asset in my hiring strategy. The authors have meticulously identified the qualities inherent in dynamic leadership, and the means by which intrinsic qualities are amplified by particular courses of action.

If you're in a managerial position looking to develop a multicultural workforce with strong upward potential, this book is a great insight into particular traits that characterize strong leadership... without exception, all of my recent hires have performed at remarkably high levels.

More importantly, however, the book provides a cogent analysis of the means by which globalized professionals can hone our skills and work toward more successful management and strategy. The real advantage of course is that the book considers dynamics outside of the Western model to draw conclusions from successful practices around the globe, allowing for a more holistic outlook.

Great as a gift, a personal challenge, or a management resource, I would recommend this book to anyone trying to better understand the dynamics of leadership in an increasingly interconnected environment.

Muna and Zennie have done an excellent job of identifying three distinct stages of leadership:

1. The early years (Childhood till mid 20's) and their impact on leadership success.
2. The paths potential leaders can take to become great leaders (after graduation).
3. Actions leaders must take to become outstanding leaders (and remain so).

It is clear that people who lack the basic ingredients of success will be at a disadvantage when it comes to leading others. Yet, for those who have some of the ingredients identified by the authors, there are several promising paths that can be taken on the journey to leadership success.

This book is a must read for parents, teachers, HR professionals, and CEO's regardless of where in the world they reside and work.

Forget what you learned in school about leadership and read this book! It won't make you a leader overnight but it will plant a leadership sentinel in the back of your mind which will kick in every time you are about to take a decision that will affect many. It is really a shame that such a book was not available when I started my journey in the corporate world! The mistakes I made could easily have been avoided by applying some of the tips provided in the book. Through the careful use of data and statistics, Dr. Muna and Dr. Zennie did a great job in "tangibiltating" the intangible characteristics recommended for being a successful leader in the Middle East, where the plethora of cultures and culturally-influenced mindsets make leadership more challenging than anywhere else in the world. Bravo to Farid and Ziad. When will part 2 be out?

The focus throughout the book on culture was most illuminating and beneficial, especially that we operate in a global business environment. Expatriate executives and managers will benefit greatly by reading this book. In addition, many of our own current business practices were re-confirmed by the findings of the research findings.

This is a highly recommended reading for senior executives, human resource professionals, and aspiring leaders ... not to mention parents and teachers who have a tremendous influence during the early years of potential leaders.

As a Western expatriate manager working in the Gulf countries this book is a great read. Rigorously researched and documented, it drives deep beneath the anecdotes with which we most often inform our lives and opinions. It had me, at turns, both nodding my head in agreement and shaking my head in surprise. It is also a very readable work, not falling into the trap of becoming dry and overly academic. If you are at all interested in how this part of the Arab world works, and how it fits into the broader global business context, then I advise you to pick this book up.

As a junior executive in a multinational company that has recently completed several acquisitions in emerging markets, I and my colleagues are increasingly challenged to identify effective leaders for multicultural teams.

Developing Multicultural Leaders provided me with a conceptual framework for identifying the commonalities in successful management methodologies around the globe. As an empiricist, I was particularly impressed that the ideas presented in this book were founded on original research as well as a synthesis of existing literature.

I would recommend this text as an invaluable guide to emerging leaders and hiring managers in any multinational organization.

there are too few resources and books on the subject of leadership in the Middle East and I seek out titles by Farid Muna for that very reason - he has been writing on the subject for decades now and always in an insightful and very readable way. This latest book of his updates the scene with tangible findings from empirical and statistical analysis. Thanks for continuing to shed light on the subject!
