The book is a product of scholarly team work, interviews, collection of memorabilia, personal fascination for the work and the iconic subject and two distinct methodological writings. The first is polemical, point counter point merging of views on situations, personages and atmospherics. Very terse formulations full of nuances is a treat to read about Sara and Elizabeth. The second style is more of narrative about the duels or duets, if you wish, between Richard Burton and Elizabeth ever since the making of Cleopatra till the book ends. The text is on theatre of love and love of theatre among people, who are emotion driven, suffering all the way from head to foot through the nerve recking spine of the strong will to live and love fighting it out . The stress and trauma is all there captured here of artists who are very emotional and who any ways die young. The long life of even dame Elizabeth is like a cats-seven, perhaps even more. Fascination of the author comes through in the second half. In the earlier the first style is the mastery of the craft. A must read work of love's labour.

It’s ironic. Over the years, I’ve wanted this book as I became a fan of Elizabeth Taylor and although I still smirk at such a beautiful, fascinating actress, this well-written book essentially made me like her spunk but dislike her overt selfishness and lack of care in her actions at times. Don’t get me wrong. I never saw her as a saint. Few people in this world are one. Not just that but I didn’t know too much about Elizabeth Taylor; just what rumors said and the fact that she had many husbands (what percent of actresses in Hollywood hasn’t done such a thing?). I wanted to learn more about this woman whom became an AIDS activist and this book took me on a journey where I laughed, gasped, pitied, agreed, disagreed, and scowled at each and every action this woman took. Say what you will, Elizabeth led an eventful life and never made any excuses about it. I think the only thing that I didn’t like about this book was the bias the author showed and he showed enormous bias via gushing about Elizabeth’s beauty and so much more. Still worth a read for me as I didn’t know too much about Ms. Taylor.

This is an interesting and fascinating book about Hollywood's most beautiful actress. Elizabeth's life was full of drama, sickness, scandal and wonderful movies. Mr.Taraborrelli writes a moving book about Elizabeth, starting when she was born and the role her mother and father played in her life. We read about her development as an actress, her marriages, her heartbreak, her addictions and her award winning roles. The author covers all of it in this book. After reading it, I felt I knew Elizabeth better and the motives behind her decisions in life. She was one of a kind and I miss her.

A well written book, and I felt the research was well investigated, by talking to people who knew Elizabeth, all put together in a very good read, couldn't book the book down, definitely worth reading, and I will probably read more biography's by this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Although I was aware of most of the stories from past news items, hearing all the background details was exciting. It was an easy book to read and the writing format flowed easily. I highly recommend it for a nice summer book. It was fascinating to read the true story of Elizabeth Taylor's life.

Very good book and in my opinion, the best and most interesting biography on her life. I found it interesting how people reacted to actually meeting Elizabeth in person. One man actually had to sit down because he was so awestruck by her beauty. I always wondered if she was as beautiful in person as in her photos. Apparently she was.

First part of the book was interesting, about her childhood, but I knew her as a family friend, and I was shocked that anyone who writes such details of her childhood totally forgot to start with her Parents, who were from Arkansas City, Kansas. That's another World entirely and one should know a lot more about their background. THAT is where Elizabeth's character, morality, and personality begins. Yes, her morality. In her mind you didn't just sleep with someone, you married them, and it's all too obvious that Elizabeth never really had a husband until Burton. She just had a series of love affairs...legalized. The Author does not go into that element of her life. He doesn't even get that Warner gave her a ring in the Bi-Centenial era, when he was elected Senator of Patriotic Virginia, that had red, white and blue stones (her favorite stones, true) Duh. Surprized it wasn't a flag. It is hard to read about her vitriolic tantrums, her foul mouth slurs and her constant abusive behavior. But, that is the Author's fault. There was lot more to Elizabeth than that. Her animals? That takes a lot of compassion, expense and work, and the Author just glazed over that aspect of her. He just glazed over her character, and wrote like a Tabloid reporter.
Disturbing read about Elizabeth. Pick something else.
By far the best bio on Elizabeth that I've read. Accurately covers her life from childhood through stardom to the very end. Great read.
