Michael S. Hyatt is an American author, podcaster, blogger, speaker, and the former chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson. He has written several books about leadership, planning, and goal setting. Hyatt's publishing career began at Word Publishing while a student at Baylor University where he graduated with a degree in philosophy. Although the Y2K crash didn't come to fruition, this book is a solid reference that can still be used in 2018 for preparing for all sorts of disasters. It is very complete with lots of lists and references. I recommend this book for everyone's personal library.

Like all books written by computer or Financial writers. This book was piece together with too many advisers and experts, the result is this book. Too much is written for the suburban or urban reader. While some the advice is good, while others are wrong or worse outdated. At times copied from older texts and articles. There is a similar book, written by Howard Ruff. Called "How to prosper during the coming bad yrs" printed in 1979. A better written text. Now for this book, was written for the Y2K crowd, with little thought on post-disaster realities. On Chapter 15:"Determine your self defense philosophy": is more liberal, narrow minded male, white bread fantasy. If someone did follow the firearms advice in this book. They would be dead within six months. While the book as some good points, very lopsided. The bad points out weight it. A good reference book for the beginning writer how not to write a book on survival and post disaster survival. If one read the book, it is gear up for short term survival with the country rebound to it's feet to save the remaining survivors. Not true. Skip this book, unless you are writer or researcher.

Practical information for ANY crisis. Even though it was written for Y2K which never happened, the information is something that could be used for another Katrina, Sandy, earthquake, tornado, etc.

I'm glad I can still buy brand new copies of this book. Now I'll be prepared for when time travel is invented and I travel back to the year 2000 again. 4/5 would recommend to time travellers

Who knows what will happen due to the Y2K bug? Michael Hyatt doesn't either, but he does know how to minimize the impact to your family. If you want to do any preparation at all 'just in case', this is an excellant place to start. He covers most aspects of life which COULD be interrupted by serious Y2K effects and/or panic. He speaks about the options and in many cases gives sources. His recommendations are structured in levels, so you can concentrate on near term before getting overwhelmed by the long term. One unique and very useful section deals with building a survival library, with descriptions of a selection of other books to provide in depth knowlege of key subjects.
His preparation checklists are better than many and there are 2 sets; one for each chapter (by subject) and another at the end (by preparation level).
Michael believes the effects will be fairly long term. Due to the level approach, you can get full value from this book for whatever period you feel comfortable preparing for. He is unabashedly Christian in his outlook, but this does not permiate the book and should not offend anyone.

Michael Hyatt is not a doomsayer, on the other hand he doesn't stick his head in the sand either. He wisely takes the middle ground, and suggests readers do the same. Having read his "Millennium Bug" to understand the problem, this latest effort of Hyatt's proves to me that prudent preparation is the only way for us to take a completely balanced approach to the decision we all must make: How much should we prepare, or should we prepare at all?
Hyatt has done his preparation homework. Y2K is a subject that there are no "experts" in, because no one on earth can tell us EXACTLY what is going to happen. We have never experienced this before and we never will never again. Therefore, Hyatt is rationally sounding the alarm to prepare, just in case we don't like the situation we wake up to on 1/1/2000. Better safe than sorry.
This book is easy to read, without all the technical computer stuff. It definitely has the best interest of the reader at heart. Y2K is not something to take lightly. For those 'blowing off" Y2K preparation I say, read this book! Many will panic later this year, trying to prepare at the last minute. This book shows us we don't have to be one of them.
Hyatt covers all the bases on the subject of Y2K preparation. Well researched, well written. It's all you to need to know about how to get ready, BEFORE the panic. I don't believe that panic is caused by preparation...it's caused by LACK of preparation. Preparation makes you sleep much better. Try it.
"High Fives" to Hyatt on a definitive work on Y2K preparation.
This book is especially valuable if you are just starting out in your preparations. If your preparations are already under way you'll be surprised at some of the things you still need to do, or could do better.
It is too bad Hyatt couldn't have gotten this out a year earlier - before some of the shortages began - but the book will save you a lot of time (AND MONEY) if you're a "Johnny-come-lately."
Chapters include: Document Preservation, Alternative Communications,Alternative Water Sources, Food Storage, Basic Tools, Shelter, Location, Heat, Energy, Cash, Barter, Waste Disposal, Medical Emergency, and Self Defense - plus 5 or 6 appendices for more ideas of what you'll need, where to go to get it, and what it'll cost.
Bottom line is: if you're hustling to prepare, this is the best place to start!
