I was extremely dissapointed with this book. May I reccomend instead a book by Deitel?

The examples demonstrate the theory well, but the situations they present are so farfetched it is unlikely the reader will ever encounter something seen as an example in this book. I really wish they would have showed me how to use the theory that I've learned in this book in practice, but they never even began to explain how C++ can actually be used to do something more than run calculations in mundane subjects such as calculating the interest on a loan (you could easily do that with a calculator or a. table). I was extremely dissapointed with this book. May I reccomend instead a book by Deitel?

I don't know if I would have purchased this text if it were not a prerequisite for class. The authors are full of egos. Much to much puffing. Speaking in terms beyond the scope of the class, much less the topic. Personally and professionally, there are much better textbooks on the subject, with far less confusion than there needs to be.

I am a computer science major and after reading this book I was confused. Programming in C++ for the first time can lead to many errors for beginners and seeking help from this book is not the solution. I had to visit my professor everyday after class just to understand how to program in C++, which made this book useless. I read the book over and over, the more I read it the more confused I got. I have thought about giving up in pursuing my major after reading this book. Try to avoid teachers who uses this book, it is not for beginners.

This book is a good text for novice programmers. Although it sometimes goes into too much details (a bit wordy), it explains everything clearly. The examples given in the book are easy to understand and the layout and printing format are good. Since it is for beginners, it contains almost all basics however doesn't include much advanced stuffs.

Briefly, this book offers beginning students help where they don't need it--thus confusing them and undermining their confidence--and withholds help where they do need it--thus impeding their progress and--again--undermining their confidence. The author, not the student, is always the book's center of attention.
I heartily recommend this text to those sadistic teachers who get off by flaunting their own facility in the subject they teach, in contrast to their beginning students.

To IT students, C++ is a real tough subject. This book provide sufficient detail about the methodolgy of solving the problem. Compared to other text books(involoving too much library template), this book is real big hit for fresh guys.
