I gave Mark 2 stars instead of one simply to reward his passion for the topic of watch collecting. However, this book was literally painful to read. I believe every -- and I mean every! -- paragraph had grammatical errors. I have to assume no editor saw this book before publication. I doubt it was even proofread. No sources were quoted for any of his historic statements so I don't know whether he made stuff up or quoted anecdotal evidence or ...?

The author transposed "where" and "were" consistently. Oftentimes, other wrong words were chosen as well. Example on page 117:

"The one floor in his plan was the huge import duty demanded by the US government. Another floor in his plan ..." The author undoubtedly meant to use the word "flaw" instead of "floor" ... how can this happen? Capitalization and punctuation are sort of randomly thrown it. There are no chapters at all: just 142 pages of continuous writing with poorly reproduced photographs thrown it.

Mark -- if you ever read this -- get a professional editor (a person who does editing for a living). You've got great passion but your 6th grade writing skills ruined this book. A professional editor could've saved you. Even the opening dedication to your wife was a horribly written statement (grammatically)? Didn't you have ANYONE read this tome before publication?!

I may return this book just out of principle. Do not buy it unless you teach writing class and want a negative example of writing skills.

I bought this book hoping to learn a great deal more on the mentioned watches. What I got was a publication that has very poor photography, a massive chart that consumed a very large amount of space, and a narrative that read like nuggets of information retrieved from brochures in a non-cohesive format.

The information in the book was informative but very poorly put together and hard to assimilate, especially the bouncing back and forth on timelines for the different brands.

A noble effort to inform consumers and collectors, just poorly executed.

This book is in two seperate sections. I will concentrate on the Rolex section of this book only.

While the book tends to give the impression that it will help you to spot a fake Rolex, in my humble opinion this books falls well short of even coming close.

The book covers very basic points, does not go into details on fonts, ink height or thickness and so on. Even points like how to check the movement by hand winding and hacking are missing.

This book is a low end book both in price and content.

Buy it if you are desperate. If not spend a few more dollars and get a better book.
Wat!?
Read this cover to cover, learned a lot of things. Liked very much.

This book has some good descriptions of how to avoid a fake or reproduction watch. The history part is alright but could use some more beef.

The first "review" here at Amazon on this book was written by the book's author, Mark Cooper. He rated his own book 5 stars, what a surprise! That is just self promoting BS and has no validity at all. It is meant to deceive people, that someone thought this book was great. Gee, the author thinks his own book is a five star.

I'm rating this book 1 star to try to counteract the author's sleazy tactic. I encourage others to also rate this book poorly. Also don't buy it.

Amazon reviews can be very helpful, but only if they are written by legitimate unbiased real customers.

This book is absolutely worthless as collector guide and is probably better suited to leveling the legs on a wobbly table than as a serious Rolex or Breitling reference. It is self published using one of those instant printing companies, Infinity Publishing. As such, it has had no professional editing and the print quality is similar to what you might turn out on an office photocopier. The blurry, distorted amateur B&W photos are useless and I would speculate that many of the included Rolex catalog and publicity photos were reproduced illegally, without the consent of the copyright owners. The poor images are accompanied by incoherent meandering text that is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, numerous incorrect facts and repetition of common wivestales.

I was outraged to see that the author, Mark Cooper, a vacuum cleaner salesman in Florida (aka "MarkFlorida"), originally shilled fake reviews of his own book. These self-reviews were removed by Amazon after lots of customer complaints, however the author quickly replaced them with fake reviews from his family and friends, containing the same comments and misspellings. In addition, he had the audacity to post negative reviews for several competing books sold Amazon.

Sadly, this book doesn't deserve a place on any bookshelf. There are many excellent Rolex and Breitling collector guides sold on Amazon. This just isn't one of them
The good points: The history on Rolex and Breitling I found enjoyable to read and very interesting. I liked the way the author matched certain events in history with the watches. The sections on how not to buy a fake will be helpful to me. The sections on Cartier and Omega I found interesting reading but this was not why I purchased the book.
The bad points: Some of the picture quality was poor; this was a disappointment to me and let the book down.
I was going to give it a 3 star but the jokes on watches at the back did make me laugh so I give it 3.5 stars.
