An excellent account of the under appreciated contributions of Indian's to the intellectual, cultural and material wealth of American civilization. Further evidence of Columbus's observation that the indians we're indeed a people "in dios" - in God. Appears to be a second volume of Weatherfords "Indian Givers" book - many of the most surprising stories are in the first volume. I would read that first.

This book is obviously well researched. It gives a very different view of native history than many students of the 1950's through 1970's were taught in school. Well worth the time to explore this information packed read! I learned a lot, understood some things better and left with a desire to delve deeper... Always the signs of a good book!!!

Unusual book. Interesting and very worthwhile. A very different perspective on North American history. Even handed. Presents a lot of interesting information.

Some of the things the author brings out, I was unaware of. I read a lot of history, world, USA and legends from around the world. It was quite interesting. He had footnotes for most of his ideas, which I was impressed with.

This is truly a great book, illustrating a history that is lost on most everyone. Too bad something like this book isn't required reading for high school students - it might make history a little more interesting.

Excellent overview of Native American people and their contributions to America through the ages.

Beautifully and clearly written, this is a wonderful story of the history of the Native American peoples, and their huge and ongoing contribution to modern North American life. Highly recommended.
Jack Weatherford is a well known and respected professor and author and he brings great perspective and respect to this subject. The book is not terribly long or difficult to get through but really does a great job of educating the reader about the enormous contributions of the Native people of the Americas, in particular the U.S. and should be assigned reading for high schoolers.
