A Butterfly's Life Cycle (Explore Life Cycles). I was looking for books to use in the classroom to show a small group of children the different stages of development in various creatures as we progress towards human development. The pictures are bright and colourful grabbing the attention of the children, they enjoyed reading and took the information onboard. This does what it says, covering the subject "Caterpillar to Butterfly" in way that children enjoy, keeping their interest while supplying the information on a level they understand. The learning age of the group was eight through ten years.

They spend most of their time eating to store energy inside their bodies.

Butterflies start out life as crawling, wingless larvae called caterpillars. They spend most of their time eating to store energy inside their bodies. When the caterpillar is ready, it turns itself into a pupa called a chrysalis, a stage in its life cycle between larva and adult. Inside the chrysalis, its body transforms into the shape of an adult butterfly. This type of change is called complete metamorphosis, which also happens in beetles, bees, wasps, and ants.
