Five True Dog Stories (Little Apple). by Margaret Davidson. Well I have read a book called Five True Dog Stories by Margaret Davidson. These stories are true, and great but can sometimes make you sad. This book is about 5 dogs, their names are Grip, Dox, Barry, Wolf and Balto. They're all dogs with different things to do. Some are trained to do bad things and some are trained to do good. I'd recommend this book to anybody who loves dogs.

Five short, easy-to-read yet interesting and exciting stories of true-life dogs with amazing accomplishments. While the stories are very good, I have to say the inside illustrations leave much to be desired as they are very indistinct and difficult to tell what exactly they are showing. Dog and/or animal loving kids will be sure to love these stories and this book written at a GR2 reading level would make a nice first chapter book for those who are ready.

A dog detective and a dog thief are among the heroes of these sometimes sad and sometimes funny stories about real dogs.

I have read several other of Margaret Davidson's books and have thoroughly enjoyed them, so when I discovered this book, I quickly bought it to read to my young, animal-loving, daughter. I found myself needing to edit some of the stories because the details would have caused my daughter to be distraught. For example, in the chapter on Barry, the story ended with Barry being stabbed when rescuing someone and later dying from the injuries. That's not the kind of bedtime story I wish to tuck her in with at night. (On a side note, Wikipedia has a section on Barry that asserts the story of the stabbing is an untrue legend and instead, Barry was retired.)

I read this book to my grandaughter in less than an hour. I was hoping for more story lines. It was okay and we cried together at the sad parts. When I was a child I did not read dog stories because they usually had a sad part. I preferred horse stories but my grandaughter is an avid dog fan so I bought it for her.

My kids loved the book when we picked it up from the library so we bought a copy for our home. Cute stories with a few simple black and white pictures. The artwork is definitely not the reason to buy the book. This version is very small so do not expect the typical large colorful children's book.

First of all, I should have not expected much for the low price, but I was disappointed in the flimsiness of the book and the not so interesting stories. Oh well...

My 7 year old daughter loved reading these. I require them to read a few minutes everyday. She picked this up to complete her required reading minutes. Instead of stopping, she kept reading and read entire book.

This is a nice little short story book. Mostly second graders gravitate to it and it is popular in our library.
