I am a harsh grader, so a 4 is pretty high. I would even go to a half more. I loved the story's development of the main characters. Magic can be difficult to integrate and be believable. I read it in two days, and didn't find any lulls.
Combining a known magical family with a very logical, brainy yet earthy family was well done! It was easy to believe. While very enjoyable, I just didn't connect with it like I have with other stories. I'm still going to buy the next book and read that too! I hope Rice does one for each of the kids in both families.

Dunstan and Leila are perfect for each other. I really like that they are a both a little older and more more experienced than the debutante that historical romances do often revolve around. I think it gives them a greater depth of character and experience to draw upon. As usual, a very good read.

I am reading this series out of order but I find, so far, while I appreciate the Ives men, I like Dunstan best! He is the most accepting of the validity of their capabilities enough to know to support his love and suppress his Ives natural tendencies when she needed him to! I am on to the next without pause!

This was ok. I just didn't like Dustan. He didn't appeal to me so I found this story hard to care about.
