The Rangeland Avenger book. The beginning of this book I was really miserable. I have ben so excited to read a Max Brand book, and it was nothing like what I would want to read. Too much harsh words, too much anxiety. I read to escape, I don't like it when I have to close the book to escape. by. Brand, Max, 1892-1944.

As a child I enjoyed Max Brand's books and thought I might revisit the author in my later years. The stereotypical cowboy worked for me as a young man; the good guys wore white hats, the bad guys black, and the dialogue and interaction between the two reflected a simplistic moral code that characterized the western for years. Today that style comes across as a caricature of the Old West that simply doesn't hold up. If you're nostalgic for that kind of read, however, by all means "pardner... saddle up!"

The first one I read (I don't remember which one it was), I could smell that one character - he's that good of a writer.

The story starts off a little slow, but within two or three chapters it picks up speed to become an express train of surprise & action. A Good Read that held my attention, but not so much that I couldn't put it down to get some chores done. The character development is phenomenal--I connected with them and felt like I knew them personally. Any western genre fan will enjoy this book.

This book was a very enjoyable read. First casual book i have read in years. I believe this is the first book i have read from Max Brand. I will be reading many more of his. I have read many of Lois Loumore's books. I am hoping that many of the Max Brand books i have downloaded are as good as this one. The ending of this book left me saying "What?"
