Sir Andrew Motion FRSL (born 26 October 1952) is an English poet, novelist, and biographer, who was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2009. During the period of his laureateship, Motion founded the Poetry Archive, an online resource of poems and audio recordings of poets reading their own work. Silver: Return to Treasure Island is a novel by former British Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, published by Jonathan Cape on 15 March 2012. The book follows Jim Hawkins, son of the character of the same name in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island, as he and Nat, daughter of Long John Silver, also a character in Treasure Island, return to the island visited by their fathers to claim abandoned bar silver.

We are generally survived by the homes we have lived in – and our improvements, like our desecrations, leave marks on the landscape that curious historians may study. he, headstones show where our journey has ended. In all such ways, the solid ground resembles a book, in which our stories are recorded. The sea is the opposite

This ebook includes a copy of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island!A rip-roaring sequel to Treasure IslandRobert Louis Stevenson's beloved classicabout two young friends and their high-seas adventure with dangerous pirates and long-lost treasure. It's almost forty years after the events of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island: Jim Hawkins now runs an inn called the Hispaniola on the English coast with his son, Jim, and Long John Silver has returned to England to live in obscurity with his daughter, Natty

Andrew Motion has form with literary re-imaginings of famous stories. Silver becomes a secondary consideration in this incarnation of Treasure Island, and treasure hunting a greedy concern in the face of so much suffering.

Andrew Motion has form with literary re-imaginings of famous stories. In Wainright the Poisoner (2000) he presented the fictional autobiography of Thomas Wainright, Romantic artist and career criminal. His 2004 novella, The Invention of Dr Cake, imagined an alternate ending to Keats's life, in which the poet survives tuberculosis and returns from Rome to become an English country doctor. There is, however, plenty to keep literary treasure hunters happy.

An OK read. Interesting story line but seemed to lack some development. Not to sell it short bhecause I did enjoy reading it but perhaps a bit juvenile. This is not one I would read again.

This was a fun read. My E version came with a free copy of Treasure Island which I read first. [I had seen the movie, but had never read the book.] The author's style reminded me very much of Robert Louis Stevenson's. I recommend the book for airplanes and beaches. If you like Treasure Island, you will like this.

Predictable, but still fun to read.. you just need a. solid suspension of belief. No need to comment on the plot--a sequel to Treasure Island. Young readers will especially enjoy this and relate to the major narrator, a brave and unnaturally lucky boy. Some violence, but nothing over the top, and no romance... just treasure hunting adventure. I felt a little letdown at the end. I would have liked a little more about what happened to the protagonist... but maybe there will be a third sequel!

Including as it does the original, (at the end --- just as one had the desire to revisit it), the comparison between the two is complementary. Neither possess aspirations to greatness, yet both provide great enjoyment for the nautical adventure that they are, and are well worth the time.

Light weight - does not have the engagement that one gets from RLS's original. Nevertheless it does place a loose hold on the reader's expectations of some reward. (no pun intended) For me it was something that I could read when I had nothing else to do. Worth the price but do not expect too much.

Superb writing. Wish I was as good a writer as Mr. Motion. Loved "Treasure Island," and this sequel is beautifully written. A nostalgic thriller is how I would describe it, and well worth the read.

Return to the adventures of the high seas. The search it's on for the silver buried forty years ago. Join young Jim and Nattie as they pick up the story set fourth by their fathers. The ships cabin is waiting for you, enjoy this wonderful escape.
I have to say I was disappointed in this book. The pace was too slow for me. The main protagonist/narrator sounded pompous, dull and tedium personified. Maybe it was me. I could not finish it I was so bored.
