I love all Grace Livingston Hill books. This one had a bit more of a twist to it. The way the heroine sticks up for Jasper even though everybody is ready to condemn him, including her own family is just wonderful. This is one of the very first GLH books I read, I believe, and I still remember its mysterious quality (though vaguely).

This novel does not appear to be a christian novel but the story is remarkable. It resembles more the writings of Zane Grey.

Known as the "Queen of Christian Romance," Grace Livingston Hill was born in Wellville, New York in 1865. Writing under her own name and the pen name Marcia Macdonald, she published over 100 popular novels and many short stories. Jean Grayson sees Jasper Holt under emergency conditions and realizes that he is light-years better than his reputation as a tough guy. The story follows these two characters in their separate worlds, as they keep an eye on each other. Trying to stay in touch with each other forces some major changes before they can openly court.

The one star rating is not for the book itself. The book itself is very good(although not one of my all time favorite Grace Livingston Hill books). What is totally unacceptable is that there are pages missing in the book. I have tried on both my Kindle and my Kindle PC reader and both have the same problem. In locations #1023 and #1395, there is just a half page of nearly solid black with some unreadable letters. When I go to the next location, it is obvious that at least one and possibly several pages are missing. What a disappointment! I know I only paid $1.00 but I still expected to be able to read all the pages :(

With so many new books being published all the time it is rare enough to reach back in time to read novels written in a bygone era. Some words may be unfamiliar now, but the quality of the writing is still there and it's always a pleasure to read a true classic novel. This one provides a poignant story that is truly inspiring written by a master novelist.

This was a good GLH but had a little too much syrup for my taste toward the end. So many authors don't know when to let their characters alone and leave a little imagination to fill in the blanks. But, still, I enjoyed the read.

I had hunted this book for years. I had read it as a much younger female and I thought it was wonderful. Reading it now, as a 72 years young female, I still think it is wonderful and very relevant to today's society. We should all pray to find such love and loyalty as Jasper Holt found.

It's not often we hear or read how traumatic struggles are overcome and living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ lead to joy and eternal love by overcoming all adversities.

This is one of my favorite Grace Livingston Hill Christian novels. This novel does not appear to be a christian novel but the story is remarkable. It resembles more the writings of Zane Grey. The two heroines do fall in love and eventually find each other at the end. So is this a yes read it novel. Yes, appropriate for young adult, christians and anyone who loves westerns.

One of her top ten best! I love how Jean is true to herself, sees the good in Jasper, which makes him wish to let it show for the rest of the world, not a chosen few.

I am tired and disgusted with graphic sex scenes--I mean, how many times can you describe the physical act without getting boring? This is a sweet, old-fashioned romance. Romance, not biological sex. If you feel the same, this book may be a gentle relief in the plethora of today's junk fiction.
