Christmastime, the 1998 holiday release on which Michael W. Smith plays chemist and combines elements not previously forged together, is a study in contrast. His inclusion of three medleys of classic holiday tunes works more than it doesn't. But the addition of Christmas show tunes like "The Happiest Christmas," Kay Thompson's "Jingle Bells," and "Christmas Waltz" makes little sense.

Ten years after he delivered the lovely Christmas, Michael W. Smith offered another holiday record with Christmastime. It's a surprisingly varied record, ranging from newer songs performed with adult contemporary arrangements, and an instrumental duet with Phil Keaggy on "O Christmas Tree" to traditional medleys supported by the American Boy Choir and a full orchestra, plus his daughter Anna singing "Away in a Manger. The album benefits from the diversity, since holiday records often sound a bit too homogenous.

A collection of cherished Christmas stories from Christian music icon, Michael W. Smith, his family, and some of Smitty's closest friends like Amy Grant and Vince Gill, Steven Curtis Chapman, Max Lucado, Franklin Graham, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, and many.

Also included in this special holiday memoir is a audio CD featuring Smitty's instrumental arrangements of classic Christmas songs as well as a live track from the annual Christmastime concert tour.
