David’s passionate pursuit of God is obvious in the songs of praise . He became a celebrated public figure. As a worship leader and psalmist after God’s heart, David understood how much God loves and deserves worship.

David’s passionate pursuit of God is obvious in the songs of praise, repentance, adoration, and lament that he wrote, sang, and accompanied with the playing of musical instruments. I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. The people compared Saul’s prowess with David’s and sang, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.

Many moments in the history of David allow us to contemplate the example of his faith

At first sight it might seem that David attained the throne by his own courage and shrewdness. Many moments in the history of David allow us to contemplate the example of his faith. He carries out his duties, trusting that God is at his side and will give him success.

The book of Judges in the Old Testament records the failure of the people . David is the only person in the Bible whose epitaph reads a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14, Acts.

The book of Judges in the Old Testament records the failure of the people and leaders under this system. God had predicted this failure (Deuteronomy 17:14-15) and knew that eventually Israel would be ruled by a king. Just before 1051 BC, the year Saul became king, the people of Israel demanded that Samuel (the prophet) select a king to rule over them. Samuel’s sons were dishonest judges and thereby disqualified for the job. God had predicted Israel’s desire for a king so they could be like other nations (1 Samuel 8:20).

They weren't always the type of person you might think God would listen t. God uses ordinary people to call down extraordinary results from God through the dynamic medium of prayer. This book will become a classic. Dr. R. T. Kendall, minister, Westminster Chapel (1977-2002).

They weren't always the type of person you might think God would listen to. But they trusted God and his plans for their lives, and that made all the difference. That means He can actually use m.and you! Read it and you will agree with me that this is no ordinary book.

The many insights in this book show long-time believers and seekers how to pray powerful prayers from the heart and glean enduring truths that have remarkable relevance for today. Powerful, life-changing secrets from David's life and journey with God help readers in their own journeys, including seeing the Lord as their savior, king, provider, shepherd, protector, companion, and much more. Each chapter concludes with a prayer that readers can pray into their own lives.

The Prayers of David is a readable book that uses the Psalms as a window into David's relationship with God. The authors introduce each section with one of David's Psalms. The chapters each are a more detailed exploration of the many different ways in which God related to David, and by extension to us. The chapter headings begin with The Lord is my Shepherd (Psalm 23) through God as King (Psalm 8), Salvation (Psalm 3), Friend (Psalm 16), Confidence (Psalm 62 and 27), Refuge (Psalm 52 and 31), Provider (Psalm 103), Reward (Psalm 17), Passion (Psalm 62), and Forgiveness (Psalm 51). They finish with David's Commitment and David's prayers for his descendants.

While the Psalms are the mainstay of this book, the whole breadth of Scripture is brought to bear on how God wishes to relate to us and make our lives more abundant. The narratives that introduce each chapter read true to the character of David, and many are taken from Scripture. These glimpses into the life of David allow the authors to make important points about our life with God without becoming preachy. Each well-written and helpful chapter can be read in a few minutes and closes with a prayer that helps personalize David's experience, and bring it into our own lives.

The Prayers of David is a remarkably readable book that offers a vivid window into the Psalms and the mind of the only person in Scripture to be described as "A person after God's Own Heart."

Armchair Interviews says: A wonderful look at the Psalms for our daily life.
